This is a cute series that my niece recommended to me. This is a fun, easy, quick read for people who like stories that parody the fairy tale world. This doesn`t simply retell fairy tale stories, but it gives you a new world with the fairy tales creatures in them. In this book, the Grimm sisters have to find out what is causing problems at their new school. This is a good read for children and adults.Tags : The Unusual Suspects (The Sisters Grimm, Book 2) (Bk. 2) [Michael Buckley, Peter Ferguson] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. This book is an exciting continuation of The Fairy-tale Detectives, with more mystery, action and humor and it is the ONLY book where they go to school. A lot of people don't like this book because of how angry Sabrina is, and how she is not trusting people she should, with comments like "I don't like how angry she is" and "Sabrina seems bent on blaming all of the Everafters for the actions of one." and don't like the books because she is discriminating against the Everafters. But I think that's the point of the book; I think these books have morals to the stories, as most of the original fairy tales did. I think he wrote it that way so people who read it can see how stupid it is to blame a whole group for the actions of one member of that group, or to be angry at the world for your problems.
For all of you fans who see it that way, as Daphne would say,
You are so Punk Rock!!!!! (
I love the title of this book - very clever - and any adult is bound to get the reference. That's what I love about these books - they're for children and adults.
Sabrina and Daphne Grimm may seem like your average 8 and 12 year old girls, but the world they inhabit is far from "usual." In book one, it was discovered the sisters were the descendents of the Brothers Grimm, who recorded many of the fariytales we know and love today. However, the fairytale characters actually exist and are living in secret in upstate NY! Prince Charming is the mayor of this secret fairytale town, and he is still courting Snow White (they've been having a lovers' quarrel for the past 800 years).
When Sabrina and Daphne's parents disappear mysteriously, they are sent to live with their Granny Relda, who is a delightful grandmother and fantastic sleuth. All three Grimm women are hard at work, trying to find the missing parents, but in the meantime, Sabrina and Daphne must do as every other child and go to school. At first Sabrina is furious with this necessity, but when a teacher is found to be murdered, she realizes that school might just be the place to find either a clue or the actual villains who kidnapped her parents.
"The Unusual Suspects" is filled with suspense, adventure, humor and heart. I sped through it and couldn't wait for the next book to come out! A truly great read!
Continuing from book one, Sabrina and Daphne Grimm are very busy solving crimes in Ferryport Landing alongside their Grandmother, her friend Mr. Canis and the mischievous Puck. So busy in fact, that they have conveniently forgotten that they should be attending school, an oversight that is speedily rectified with the appearance of Ms. Smirt of the Department of Child Welfare.
As can be expected, Ferryport Landing Elementary School is not your average institution of learning. Daphne fits in easily, thanks to her beautiful and kind teacher Ms. Snow White, but Sabrina has a much tougher time. Her classmates are perpetually sleepy and tired, the headmaster is the Pied Piper, and her teacher Mr. Grumpner is even grumpier than his name indicates.
Before Sabrina can get settled in, Mr. Grumpner is found cocooned in a spider web, and monsters are wreaking havoc in the halls. While all this is going on, Sabrina continues to hunt for their parents, and thanks to a magical match, she gets closer than she's ever been to solving the mystery. Barring her way is a most unexpected adversary and her pet 'kitty", who answers to the name Jabberwocky.
The book ends abruptly, with a cliff hanging "to be continued" and an unwritten "GOTCHA!!"
See you at book three.

Sabrina and Daphne Grimm have been living with their grandmother for over a month and they are just now starting to go to school. Seven-year-old Daphne adjusts to school immediately, who wouldn't with Snow White as your teacher? Twelve-year-old Sabrina has a harder time adjusting; her teacher, Mr. Grumpner, lives up to his name, and the kids in her class aren't exactly friendly. Plus, she'd rather spend the time looking for her missing parents instead of being in school. But Sabrina's attention is soon caught after a series of attacks at the school. Before long, Sabrina, Daphne, their grandmother, and the faithful Mr. Canis are wrapped up in a series of events that threaten the entire town and beyond.
"The Unusual Suspects" is a great entry in what is proving to be a delightful series. Michael Buckley deftly weaves several fairy tales into the book, and to his credit, he uses elements from the book versions rather than the sometimes more popular movie version, as when Sabrina uses the golden cap from the Wizard of Oz books. Children will enjoy the fairy tale aspects of the book, while adults will appreciate the subtle humor in the scenes mimicking westerns and detective movies. Sabrina and Daphne are both very believable characters, especially Sabrina and her anger over her parent's disappearance. The fairy tale characters are also well done, presented as real people with real problems and readers will notice the irony at the despair of the Pied Piper of Hamelin when his own child disappears. And readers may be surprised at which fairy tale characters turn out to be heroes and which turn out to be villains. Finally, Buckley ends the book with quite a cliffhanger, which will make readers want to immediately read the next book in the series.
Well done!
